Terms of service

01The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and NodeNinja ("we", "us"), who runs Synapse. By creating an account or playing, you accept them and our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Synapse.

02Who can play

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you need the consent of a parent or guardian to use Synapse, and by creating an account you confirm that they have agreed to these terms and the privacy policy on your behalf. A parent or guardian can ask us to delete a child's account at any time. You also need a Google account and must be allowed to use Synapse under the laws that apply to you.

03Your account

You sign in with Google, and you are responsible for what happens on your account. One account per person. Your display name is shown to other players, so it must not impersonate anyone, include someone's personal details, or be offensive, hateful or sexual. We may change a display name that breaks these rules.

04Fair play

You agree not to:

• use bots, scripts, automation or any tool that answers for you;
• exploit bugs, tamper with the app, or interfere with the servers or other players' games;
• use more than one account to boost your rank, or arrange results with other players;
• scrape, copy or resell questions, leaderboards or other data from the service;
• harass other players or use Synapse to break the law.

We may remove points, reset ranks or suspend accounts that break these rules.

05Questions and content

The app, its design and its code belong to us. Many questions come from open sources under their own licences, listed on the question credits page. We check questions, but some may still be wrong or out of date. If you spot one, report it in the app. When you send a report, you let us use it to fix the question.

06Points and purchases

Points, ranks and other in-game rewards have no money value and can't be sold, traded or exchanged for cash.

Synapse may later offer optional purchases, such as a Pro subscription or items in a shop. These would be sold through Google Play, under Google Play's terms, and refunds would follow Google Play's refund policy and your consumer rights. Single player shows ads; quick matches and Battle Trivia do not.

07The service

We work to keep Synapse running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, topics or game modes, and may stop the service with reasonable notice.

08Ending your account

You can stop playing and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and will tell you why where we can.

09Liability

Synapse is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by events outside our control, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be excluded.

10Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protections of your local consumer law.

11Changes and contact

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and tell you in the app before important changes take effect. Questions? Email appsupport@node-ninja.dev.
